“Why is the Insurance Menu option in the Ledger grayed out?”

This is a frequent question that causes users to call the Dentrix Customer Support team.  It’s a great question, and here’s the answer:

If the Insurance menu option is grayed out (see image below), it isn’t available for use. Usually this means that the patient has not been assigned insurance in the Family File. Once you’ve added insurance, the Insurance menu option will become available for use.

If you have assigned insurance information in the Family File and the option is still gray, it probably means that you are viewing the All (with Running Balance) option in the Ledger. The Insurance menu option is only available when viewing the Ledger for a specific patient. Click the View menu item and select a specific family member. Once you’re viewing a specific patient, the Insurance menu option will become available for use.
